Asantehene calls on Journalists

Kumasi, June 16, GNA – Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Asantehene has called on journalists in the country to educate the public and stop creating tension in the country with stories they filed in both the print and electronic media.

He said; “while we expect journalists to inform and educate the public, they must be sure the information they publish or broadcast are accurate and would create peace and tranquillity in the country”.

The Asantehene made the call when Mr Ibrahim Awal, Managing Director of Graphic Communication Group Limited, called on him at the Manhyia Palace at the weekend as part of his working tour of the Ashanti Region.

He said as professionals, journalists should not support any political party but be impartial in dealing with national issues for the benefit of society.

The Asantehene commended Mr Awal and said “you attained your position through the ranks; therefore you should know how to deal with your colleagues, who will assist you to run the Company to improve upon the credibility of your publications”. Mr Awal expressed appreciation to the Asantehene and pledged to improve upon the status of the Company.

He presented copies of “Graphic Asempa” to the Asantehene. The Newspaper was lunched in May 2007 for Ashanti and Brong Ahafo Regions.
