Asante Kotoko Face GFA Charges Over Alleged Security Breach

Asante Kotoko have been formally charged by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) over an alleged security lapse during their Ghana Premier League clash with Medeama SC.

The Kumasi-based club is accused of failing to provide adequate protection for match officials after unauthorised individuals reportedly gained access to Zone 2, the restricted tunnel area during half-time. According to the GFA, the intrusion led to match officials being threatened and attacked, raising serious concerns about safety protocols at the venue.

The charges fall under the GFA Disciplinary Code (2019) and the Enhanced Matchday Safety and Security Protocols (2025), both designed to ensure the protection of referees and maintain order at league centres.

The incident has sparked renewed debate about matchday security and the responsibility of clubs to enforce strict access control in sensitive areas.

Asante Kotoko have been given until Wednesday, 3 December 2025, to respond to the charges, after which the GFA’s disciplinary committee is expected to determine the next steps.

The club is yet to issue an official statement.
