Asante-Bekwai NPP executive taken to court

Kumasi, Jan. 4, GNA – Two prominent members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Asante-Bekwai constituency have filed a writ at a Kumasi High Court restraining the constituency executives from holding themselves out or performing any function reserved for duly elected executives.

The executive members are Mr Atta Kwasi, Chairman, Mr Gyamfi Frimpong, First Vice-Chairman, Mr George Gyamfi, Second Vice-Chairman, Mr Joe Orchill, Secretary, Nana Yaw Nketia, Assistant Secretary, Mr Ebenezer Osei Kwadwo, Organizer, Mr Gyedu Ankomah, Treasurer, Madam Mercy Karikari, Women’s Organiser and Mr Yaw Adu, Youth Organizer. In a statement filed on their behalf by Mr K.A. Asante-Krobea of Sekyere Chambers, Mr Victor Duah alias YB, former Assistant Secretary and Mr Baffour Awuah, former Second Vice-Chairman of the constituency, are also seeking an order to annul the purported election of the defendants at a constituency delegates’ conference held on December 15, 2005.

The plaintiffs are further seeking an order for a proper constituency delegates’ conference for election of executive officers for the Bekwai constituency of the NPP. In a statement of claim, the plaintiffs said the defendants did not comply with the notice requirements of rules and practices regarding elections and that, the elections which were hurriedly convened by Mr Atta Kwasi, the constituency chairman, was void and all things and businesses transacted on the day of the conference was null and void.
