Asante-Bekwai gets two new projects

Bekwai (Ash), June 07, GNA – Mr Kofi Opoku-Adusei, Deputy Minister of Local Government, Rural Development and Environment, on Monday inaugurated two projects at separate ceremonies for the people of Bekwai in the Amansie East District.

The projects were a rehabilitated and furnished circuit court building that was completed at a cost of 221 million cedis and a four-unit classroom block, office and store for the Islamic Primary School at Bekwai Zongo that cost 372 million cedis. The district assembly undertook them.

Mr Opoku-Adusei, who is the Member of Parliament for Bekwai, decried lack of maintenance culture in the Ghanaian society and said the rehabilitation of the court building should serve as an example for all to cultivate the culture of maintenance.

He appealed to the Judicial Service to use part of its court fines to renovate dilapidated courts in the country.

Mr Adjei Frimpong, the Presiding Judge, who received the keys, thanked the assembly and appealed to the assembly to build a permanent residence for the judge who would be posted to the district. Inaugurating the school, Mr Opoku-Adusei advised people in the Zongo community to take advantage of the capitation grant and send their children to school.

Alhaji Abudu Mamudu, Ashanti Regional Manager of Islamic Schools, thanked the assembly and said the introduction of the capitation grant had increased school enrolment and called for the construction of additional classroom blocks.
