Asante-Akim South youth federation given new lease of life

The Asante Akim South District branch of the Federation of Youth Associations of Ghana (FEDYAG) has been given a new lease of life after years of inactivity.

The association, an umbrella body of youth groups in the area, which has for the past seven years remained dormant, now has a seven-member interim executive to inject some vibrancy.

Mr Opoku Apraku, Ashanti Regional Coordinator of the National Youth Authority (NYA), inducting them into office at a ceremony at Juaso, said they should work hard to ensure that the various youth associations were functional.

They should properly coordinate the activities of the associations to help the young people to actively participate in national development.

The country, he said, required a vibrant and visionary youth to prosecute its development agenda.

He reminded them that as the nation’s future, it was important they acted more responsibly and did away with reprehensible conduct and lifestyles.

Mr De-graft Fokuo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), called for collaboration between the youth and the NYA in order to come out programmes that would promote youth development.

He asked the interim officers to make sure that all youth associations in the District were registered to make it easier for identification and support by the Assembly.

He advised the youth not to allow any person to hide behind them to foment trouble.

Mr Ibrahim Gyimah, District NYA Coordinator, challenged the reconstituted FEDYAG to find innovative ways to raise funds to sustain its activities.
