Asante-Akim South teachers back to the classroom

Juaso (Ash), March 14, GNA – Teachers in the Asante-Akim South District, on Monday, called off their strike action over anomalies in their salaries, following their migration onto the Single Spine Salary Structure (SSSS). Despite this, attendance by pupils and in most of the schools was low, when the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited, something that did not allow for any serious academic work

The situation was, however, different at the Juaso Senior High School (SHS) where there was serious academic work. The school authorities were upbeat that attendance would improve since most of the school children did not know that the teachers’ had accepted to go back to the classroom.

Some teachers, who spoke to the GNA on condition of anonymity, welcome= d the introduction of the 15 per cent retention premium package, but were quick to add that it fell short of their expectation. They appealed to the government to do more to improve on the condition= s of service of teachers, to avoid the disruption of the academic calendar.
