Asamoah-Boateng’s projects to continue despite defeat

Mankessim, Dec. 17, GNA – The Member of Parliament (MP) for Mfantseman West, Mr Stephen Asamoah-Boateng, has ordered people working on the projects he initiated in the constituency to continue work despite his defeat in the December 7 parliamentary elections.

Mr Asamoah-Boateng, also the Minister of Information and National Orientation, said the projects were to improve the standards of living of the people but not to influence votes.

Mr Felix Nyarko-Antwi, constituency First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who disclosed this to the GNA at Mankessim on Wednesday said it was not true that the MP had collected the electric poles he provided for electrification projects in the area as was being rumoured.

He said it was also not true that the minister collapsed after the count of the votes in the December 7 polls and was rushed to the Regional Hospital in Cape Coast.

Mr Nyarko-Antwi said though Mr Asamoah-Boateng had filed a petition at the Cape Coast High Court for a recount of the ballots in the constituency, it was not true that he had attempted to bribe the law enforcing agents to connive with him to win the recount as being alleged.

He said Mr Asamoah-Boateng lost to Mr Aquinas Tawiah Quansah of the National Democratic Congress by 3,176 votes. Mr Makita Quainoo, a member of Mr Asamoah_Boateng’s campaign team expressed concern about tribal politics being practiced in the Central Region.

He said the practice would not help the nation to elect credible people to govern the nation.

Mr Quainoo urged supporters of NPP to embark on a house to house campaign to canvas for votes for Nana Akufo-Addo.
