Asafohemaa urges Ghanaians to protect the forest.

Gomoa-Asebu (C/R) March 8, GNA – An official of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Asafohemaa of Gomoa-Asebu in the Central Region, Nana Esi Abbam-Amoah, II, has urge Ghanaians to protect the country’s forest reserves against bushfires. She regretted that setting bushfire in the rural areas has now become a complete annual ritual and is causing serious havoc to the ecology.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Gomoa-Asebu, near Winneba- Junction at the weekend on bushfires and HIV/AIDS, Nana Abbam-Amoah said the two major issues demands national approach to reduce their effects on nation building drastically.

Nana Abbam-Amoah called fellow chiefs, unit committee, area, town, urban council and district assembly members to team up with officers and men of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to educate the people on the dangers posed by bushfires.

They should also collaborate efforts with health workers; Community based organisations and a host of non-governmental organisations in the regions to enlighten the masses on HIV/AIDS because the disease is currently claiming more lives.

the work of AIDS more disturbing was that the pandemic is killing the most productive citizens in the country and if not properly checked it could destroy all the excellent economic and social programmes that the government has put in place for the nation.

Nana Abban-Amoah advised farmers, cigarette smokers, hunters and palm wine tapers in rural areas to ensure prudent handling of fire to avoid the rampant outbreak of bushfires. She said the harmattan has increased its intensity, adding that this is time Ghanaian must handle fire with great care, particularly our farmers, hunters and palm wine producers as well as smokers.

She advised the youth to endeavour to abstain from sex to save them from the grips of the killer disease.

Nana Abbam-Amoah also charged parents and guardians to teach their children about sex and the implications of sexual promiscuity.
