Artisan jailed seven years for defilement

Juaso (Ash), March 12, GNA – A 25-year-old artisan, Kwame Appiah, has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment in hard labour by the Juaso Circuit Court for defiling a 15-year-old girl. Appiah pleaded guilty to the offence.

Police Detective Inspector Eric Atatsi told the court presided over by Mr Justice S.K. Sarpong Appiah that the victim is a Junior High School (JHS) student at Hwidiem near Agogo. On October 28, last year, at about 12 noon, when the school went on break, the girl, after having her lunch was returning to the school, when the convict, who lives close by called her. He succeeded in luring her into his room, sexually abused her and gave her five Ghana Cedis and cautioned her not to tell anyone about it.

The victim, however, informed the authorities of the school and a formal report was made to the police, leading to his arrest. He said a medical report by doctors confirmed that she had been defied.
