Arthur Kennedy: I will challenge Akufo-Addo if…

Dr Kobina Arthur Kennedy, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) says if Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo does not call his supporters to order, he will ‘consider’ joining the flagbearership race of the party.

“If I don’t hear anything from him and the party leadership does not call them to order, I will frankly consider contesting myself; nobody will go unopposed as the flagbearer of the NPP as long as I am alive,” he indicated.

Dr Arthur Kennedy, in a statement, asked Nana Akufo-Addo to call his supporters who are verbally attacking Dr. Konadu Apraku to order because that is the cause of the party’s internal wrangling.

According to him, Nana Akufo-Addo should be taking actions to unite the party and not divide it and the only way to do that is by ‘calling his people to order’

“If he is not able to call them to order, I will be very disappointed in him. If he is not able to call his supporters to order, how can he call his ministers to order when he becomes President?” he asked.

Speaking in an interview Monday on Citi FM, Dr Arthur Kennedy added that if Nana Addo does not ask them to stop, he will join candidates who will be contesting for the flagbearership position.

Even though the party’s General Secretary, Mr Kojo Owusu Afriyie, popularly known as Sir John has clearly stated that Nana Addo will be their flagbearer even when he is in a wheel chair, Dr Arthur Kennedy says ‘as long as I am alive’ he will not go unopposed.

“Educated people even in the United Kingdom who have seen democracy at work chant no Nana, No Vote; do they mean that God forbid, if God is to call Nana Akufo-Addo, they wouldn’t support our flagbearer? Does it mean if somebody else wins, they won’t support that person?” he asked.
