Arrest ‘machomen’ at polling stations – Rev. Osei-Bonsu

The President of the Catholic Bishops Conference Most Rev. Osei-Bonsu has stated that the use of Machomen as thugs during elections can be prevented if the security forces execute their work diligently.

Most Rev. Osei-Bonsu’s comment comes on the back of the latest controversial tape of Assin North MP Kennedy Agyapong.

Mr. Agyapong was heard on the tape confessing how he hired over 1,000 thugs to protect ballots boxes in the Ashanti region during the 2008 elections.

Speaking to XYZ News, Most Reverend Osei-Bonsu said machomen won’t be needed if the security will act aptly.

“The use of machomen during elections is not right” Rev. Osei-Bonsu said, adding “but if the security agencies will do their work well and will guard all polling stations then there will be no need for machomen”.

“If machomen come there they should be arrested by the security agencies. It is wrong but the onus lies with the Police and the Military to ensure that this does not happen”.
