Arrest Ken Agyapong over another dangerous comment – NDC group

Inside Ghana, a group loyal to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has called on the 2012 flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo to “condemn and distance himself from potentially violent comments allegedly made by Kennedy Agyapong.

The group in a statement signed by Spencer Quaye, the Convener, also called on the National Security outfit to immediately “arrest the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong for inciting his party’s youth to cause mayhem and shed blood in the streets”.

According to the statement, Mr. Agyapong was heard on his own channel, Net 2 TV network on Tuesday 16th April 2013, saying, “You the youth must defend yourself. Go out onto the streets and demonstrate; Look, the easiest death is for you the youth to go out there and die”.

“Inside Ghana has observed closely the smelly conduct of Hon. Kennedy Agyepong and would like to call on Nana Akufo-Addo and the two other petitioners, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumiah and Jake Obetsebi Lamptey as well as the New Patriotic Party hierarchy to distance themselves from the uncompromising war mongering statement made by their colleague.

“Inside Ghana believes that the statement might have some underpinning element against the backdrop that other ill-considered statements from leading NPP members such as Ken Ofori Atta, Mathew Opoku Prempeh, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko and Sammy Awuku have all escaped the attention of the security apparatus of the State.

“But for Budu Koomson of Imani Ghana, who was invited for interrogation by the National Security outfit for his unsavoury comments, these persons have gotten away with their war mongering chants. We therefore charge the security outfit to as a matter of urgency arrest Kennedy Agyapong for further investigation,” the statement added.

It urged Nana Akufo-Addo and the NPP to “demonstrate exemplary leadership by distancing themselves from such disastrous statements. We urge Nana Addo to come public and condemn his colleague.
