Army officer ‘disappears’ after supporting Akufo-Addo

Friends, family members and colleagues of a young military instructor at the Achiase Jungle Warfare School are wondering as to whereabouts of Lance Corporal Bright Barwuah.

Bright Barwuah, until his disappearance on December 7, was an instructor at Achiase Jungle Warfare School, where he is known for his inspirational training of soldiers in a war craft.

He was allegedly arrested by officers of the Military Police on December 7 last year in the heat of election 2012, and his whereabouts has since then remained a mystery, although indications are that he is being held somewhere at Burma Camp.

The reason for his arrest, according to eyewitnesses present at the time, is that he is a supporter of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo. Lance Corporal Barwuah Bright, we have learned, is ordinarily a member of the 3rd Battalion of Infantry in Sunyani but is attached to the Achaise Jungle Warfare School.

According to eyewitnesses, Mr Barwuah had travelled to Oda on December 7 and logged in a hotel, called Viclands, where he was arrested.

Weeping family members told the Daily Searchlight yesterday, “Our relative has been arrested and taken to an undisclosed location.

It has been over a month since he was arrested but the authorities are refusing to put him before court, release him or tell us specifically the crime that he has committed.

“How can they do that to a serving soldier who has dedicated his life to serving the nation?” Family members expressed consternation that this is happening in the very first days of Mr John Dramani Mahama’s term as president, albeit a contested president.

“If this is how he is going to start his reign, then we can only pray,” they said.
