Armed robbers rob Ghana Commercial Bank

Hohoe, Feb 27, GNA – Six armed robbers on Tuesday evening attacked the Hohoe branch of the Ghana Commercial Bank and took away an unspecified amount of money.

The robbers held Mr Solomon Osei Bonsu, the Area Manager of the bank, at gunpoint, matched him to the strong room at about 1850 hours and took away the money.

Miss Adjoa Ofori, an employee, said the robbers scaled the back fence wall of the bank to her residence with the money, spilling some of it on her compound.

She said an alarm was raised but the armed men disappeared into the dark with the money, firing sporadically and left behind a locally manufactured pistol.

As they ran, some of the money dropped off and one Mr Francis Ahiableame, a 45-year-old carpenter, kept watch over the money to prevent people from picking it but police arrested him as a suspect and allegedly assaulted him.

He said when he was put in police cell some of the inmates beat him up for his failure to collect some of the money. Mr William Akpesey, acting Hohoe Divisional Police Commander, confirmed the incident and said some of the money had been retrieved and that efforts were being made to apprehend the culprits.
