Armed robbers attack school bus in Lawra

Armed robbers numbering about 5 on Thursday night attacked a school bus belonging to the Lawra Senior High School (SHS).

The robbers reportedly shot sporadically at the Urvan bus with registration GT 2039-16 around Nadowli Yiziiri which is some few kilometers into Yaga-Babile.

According to management of the school, the bus which was recently acquired by the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) was transporting some staff of the school from Wa to Lawra when the incident occurred.

The target of the robbers was the tyres of the vehicle but the bravado exhibited by the driver made it impossible for them to hit their target which saw the pumper of the vehicle perforated with bullets from their sophisticated weapons.

Occupants and the driver are safe but residents in the area are calling on security agencies to step up their efforts in curbing robbery activities on the rise.

The Lawra District Police Command confirmed the incident to ultimatefmonline.com but said investigations have commenced into the incident.
