Armed robbers attack passengers on Kumasi-Yeji road

Sunyani, Oct. 28, GNA- A group of armed robbers have attacked passengers travelling from Kumasi to Yeji at Sawaba in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The armed robbers mounted a road block in the middle of the road at Sawaba on October 21, at about 1.30 am, and ordered the driver of the vehicle to stop.

Inspector Christopher Tawiah, Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) said the robbers then entered the vehicle with pistols and asked the driver to surrender all the money on him. They took from the driver 250,000 cedis being lorry fares he collected from the passengers and searched all travelling bags on the vehicle.

He said the matter was reported to the Yeji Police who found some bags and empty cartridges scattered when they visited the scene. No one was wounded and no arrest has been made while investigations continue, Inspector Tawiah said.

In another development, four suspected armed robbers attacked Nana Kwame Ampaabeng, a taxi driver at a knifepoint at Sunyani and escaped with his cab.

Inspector Tawiah said on October 20, four unknown men hired the driver in Sunyani and asked him to send them to Nwoase shrine near Wenchi.

He said on their return, at Tromeso, one of the men asked the driver to stop for him to urinate.

The four immediately attacked Ampaabeng with a knife and asked him to hand over the vehicle keys to them.

He said the driver was thrown out from the vehicle leaving him to his fate whilst the robbers sped off with the vehicle. He said no arrest has since been made and appealed to the general public to assist the police with information leading to the arrest of the offenders.
