Armed robbers attack bus at Tugu

Armed Robbers attacked a 19 Seater bus at Tugu near Tamale in the Northern region.

The robbers succeeded in taking away large sums of money from the passengers, and also mobile phones and other items.

According to the driver, 35 year old Aminu Nantogmah, they were travelling from Kumasi to Yendi and on reaching Tugu at about 3am, seven armed robbers stopped the bus and asked all the passengers to alight and hand over all belongings.

According to Nantogmah, the passengers were mostly butchers from Yendi who went and sold their cattle in Kumasi and were returning home when the incident occurred.

He said the armed robbers were Fulanis armed with AK 47 with one holding a cutlass.

Meanwhile, the Secretary of the Yendi Branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union, Abdul Majeed Chendoo has appealed to the Managers of Yutong buses travelling from Kumasi to Yendi to engage the services of the police to always escort the passengers to Yendi due to frequent armed robbery attacks.
