Armed robbers attack Accra-Kumasi passenger bus

Accra, Dec. 23, GNA – The Police has mounted a search for seven armed robbers who attacked passengers on a Accra-Kumasi bus near Nkawkaw and robbed them of more than 10 million cedis on Tuesday.

According to Mr John Koblah Agboado, Superintendent of Police In-Charge of Highway Patrol Unit of the Police, three of the armed robbers joined the bus with registration number GW 2173 U, from Accra and on reaching a section of the road, a little after Nkawkaw, put pressure on the driver that they would attend to nature’s call. He said when the driver stopped for them on their request, four other armed men emerged from the bush and started firing into the air, attacked the driver whose name was not immediately known and took away 200 dollars and 1.2 million cedis.

Mr Agboado said eight million cedis was also snatched from a passenger when the police were called in, one Major Assem of Fourth Battalion Infantry who arrived on the scene and was about to turn his car away was mistakenly shot by the police.

He said, while that was going on, the three robbers, who had got down from the vehicle and those who emerged from the bush took to their heels into the bush in one direction.

Mr Agboado said the army officer was treated at the Nkawkaw hospital and discharged. 03
