Armed Robber Stabs Two To Death

Sunyani, (Brong Ahafo) 23 Oct.,

Mr. K. Adu-Gyamfi the 39 year-old driver who was stabbed by a fleeing armed robber at dawn on Wednesday died this morning at the Sunyani government hospital where he was on admission. This brings to two the number of people who have died at the hands of the 24-year-old Bismarck Kwame Annin who was allegedly arrested for breaking into a car apparently to steal a tape recorder. Annin had, according to the police, earlier stabbed to death Mr. Kwadwo Amponsah, 40, for confronting him after breaking into the car belonging to a neighbour in the Newtown suburb of Sunyani yesterday. Mr. Kofi Amofah-Akardom, a principal nursing officer at the hospital, told the GNA today that Mr. Adu-Gyamfi collapsed and died around 0900 hours today. He said though Adu-Gyamfi was brought to the hospital in a critical state, his condition had improved remarkably yesterday evening and even managed to sit up and watch television after intensive care. Mr. Amofah-Akardom said when everything was pointing to a recovery, Adu-Gyamfi’s condition took a turn for the worse this morning and despite the immediate attention by the physician specialist on duty, he died. Annin, who told police he hails from Dormaa-Akwamu in the Dormaa district, is reported to have stabbed his victims with a sharp screw driver in his bid to escape after he was found holed up in a car allegedly attempting to remove the tape recorder. His second victim was on his way to a near-by public place of convenience when Annin, mistaking him for a member of the pursuing mob stabbed him in the chest. The police has taken Annin to an undisclosed location to save him from a mob which has been besieging the police station to lynch him since yesterday.
