Armed robber shoots and kills colleague in robbery

Tema, March 24 GNA – A member of an armed robbery gang on Monday night shot and killed his own colleague when he attempted to kill a security man on duty when they attacked the Tema Women’s Hospital.

The gang apparently attacked the hospital in a bid to forcibly enter the offices, one of them aimed his AK 47 rifle at the Security man, who confronted him, Inspector Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, Tema Police Public Relations Officer, told the Ghana News Agency on Tuesday.

He said, however, that the armed robbers, who were using mobile phones wore masks and could not take anything and they took to their heels leaving the body of their dead colleague behind while the security man is currently on admission.

In another development, the Tema Regional Police command has arrested 16 suspects including four women who go about seeking information from victims before robbing them.

Inspector Nketia-Yeboah said three others, Kwame Birikorang, alias Oboo, Stephen Kwame and Thompson Coffie were also identified in a swoop carried out at Tema Manhean for committing various robberies in Tema and its environs.

He said they have been placed in custody while others including the women have been granted Police enquiry bail.

The Police have promised to reward anyone who gives information about the robbers in the Municipality.
