Armed Forces Top Brass Get Promotions

Accra, Ghana, 4 June The of Ghana has announced promotions in the top brass of the Armed Forces, with the nation’s top soldier, Major-General Ben Akafia becoming a Lieutenent-General.

An official statement released in Accra on Tuesday said the promotions were made by President Jerry Rawlings based on the recommendations of the Armed Forces Council.

Brigadier J.H. Smith, Army Commander, becomes a Major-General, Commodore E.O. Owusu-Ansah, Navy Commander becomes Rear Admiral, Colonel F.Y. Mahama, First Infantry Brigade Group Commander is now a Brigadier and Clolonel K.P. Brown, Commandant of the Military Academy and Training Schools is promoted to Brigadier.

The statement said the promotions take effect from the date of their appointments. PANA
