Armed Asafo group Pursuing highway robbers in the Forest returns

A search party made up of armed Asafo groups from the Akpafu Traditional Area, who were pursuing a gang of highway robbers who robbed passengers on vehicles plying the Hohoe/Jasikan road and entered the forest, returned with some exhibits.

Mr Joseph K. Akortia, Assembly-man for Akpafu-Odomi told the Ghana News Agency that, they recovered two live ammunitions, face towel, mask (hood), a knife, torch-light and SIM cards.

He said the group saw where the robbers might have relaxed and ate raw cassava and dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

Mr Kwabena Otuo Acheampong, Hohoe Divisional Crime Officer, confirming the story said the exhibits are with the police.

He cautioned people against handling exhibits at crime scenes and appealed to the public to be vigilant, report suspicious characters and volunteer information to the police.

A gang of nine highway robbers on Monday shot the tyre of a school bus with 50 pupils on it, smashed the windscreen of a tipper truck and seized cash and mobile phones from travelers on an Accra bound Metro Mass bus.**
