Archbishop of Kumasi donates to prisons

Kumasi, Dec 29, GNA- The Most Rev Peter Akwasi Sarpong, the Catholic Archbishop of Kumasi, on Boxing Day donated used clothes and shoes, food items worth about 28.6 million cedis and cash of eight million cedis to the Kumasi Central Prison for distribution to all prisons in the Ashanti Region.

The food items donated personally by the Archbishop included five bags of beans, five bags of flour, biscuits, toffees and eight million cedis cash.

Mr Martin Nyame, Chaplain of the Catholic Prisons Ministry, told the GNA that societies in the diocese also contributed variety of food and other items and cash for donation to the prisons.

They included kenkey, bread, biscuits, plantain, assorted soap, second hand clothes and shoes.

He said the Catholic Prisons Ministry had also presented to the Manhyia Prisons with 20 bags of cement, a DVD system to the Central Prison, a television set to the Obuasi Prison and a sewing machine, a packet of roofing sheets to the Ahinsan Prison and another packet of roofing sheets to the Amanfrom Prison camp.
