Archbishop advises teachers to accept postings to rural areas

Kumasi, Nov 08, GNA – Most Rev Peter Akwasi Sarpong, the Kumasi Metropolitan Archbishop of Kumasi, has appealed to teachers to accept postings to the rural areas since children in these areas also need quality education.

He said it was not fair for teachers to refuse postings to the rural areas since they were depriving the rural children from also getting quality education.

Most Rev Sarpong was speaking during a visit to the Saint Louis Training College in Kumasi.

The Metropolitan Archbishop lauded the “Out” programme under which third year students in teacher training colleges go out on teaching practice for one year.

He said the programme would enable the student teachers to feel the real life situation before completing their course. Ms Georgina Darling Ofori, the Principal of Saint Louis Training College, said in view of the upgrading of teacher training colleges into diploma awarding colleges, new syllabuses had been dispatched to the colleges.

She said all the 284 students who sat for the second semester examinations were successful and attributed the excellent performance to the sense of discipline and seriousness of the students in their academic works and commended the staff for their competence.
