APPSA-Chicago Donates Books to School.

To commemorate its 50th anniversary, Arch Bishop Porters Past Students Association ( APPSA), Chicago Chapter, has donated about 60,000 books, DVD’s and other reading materials to the school.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony at the school library, Mrs. Pauline Akoto Owusu on behalf of the Chicago Chapter, said the inspiration behind the donation was to encourage the students to develop a healthy appetite for reading.

Reminiscing, Mrs. Akoto Owusu touched on how hard it was back then for students to get books to read to improve their reading, writing and comprehension skills. As an avid reader herself, Mrs. Akoto Owusu made a silent promise then, that God willing, she will one day help stock her alma mater’s library.

Mrs. Pauline Akoto Owusu said it was just a matter of time to make good her promise and this perfect opportunity coincided with the School’s 50th Anniversary. To make it possible, a very successful and well attended fund raising event was held in Chicago. The result was a 20 foot container full of books.

Receiving the books on behalf of the School with the deepest appreciation were Mrs Mary Armah-Brako, the headmistress, Mrs Grace Gina Eshun, assistant headmistress-academic, Mr. Ben Barlow, head of visual arts and Gloria Akua Gbidi, head Librarian.

In her closing remarks Mrs. Pauline Akoto Owusu gave the biggest thanks to the Chicago Chapter who made every thing possible, especially Ms. Christiana Kwarteng, Ms. Florence Addo and Mrs. Abena Agyemang Bugyei. In addition to the books, the APPSA-Chicago is refurnishing the entire library.
