Apprentice jailed 7 years for defiling 14-year-old girl

Juaso (Ash), June 3, GNA- Ofori Amponsah, an 18-year-old fitting apprentice has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 14-year-old girl by the Juaso Circuit Court. Amponsah, who pleaded guilty to two counts of defilement and unsafe abortion, was convicted on his own plea.

Police Inspector Emmanuel Atatsi, prosecuting, told the court presided over by Mr Jacob Boon that the complainant was the mother of the victim, while the accused was an apprentice fitter, both residing at Agogo.

In February, this year the accused, who met the victim at Agogo in the Asante Akim North District proposed love to her and managed to lure her into his room, where he had sex with her and cautioned her not to inform anybody.

The accused took advantage of the situation and continued having an affair with the victim.

On may 2, this year the victim informed the accused that she was pregnant and he confined her in his room for two days, administering a drug to her with the intention of aborting the pregnancy. The mother, who had information that the victim was in the accuser’s room, led the police to the house, where he was arrested and arraigned before the court.
