Applicants continue to show up at two biometric voter registration centres at Kaase in the Asokwa Constituency in clear defiance of armed thugs who twice within the past nine days launched violent attacks on the centres.
As at 0920 hours on Monday, 12 people had been registered and given their voter identification (ID) cards at the two centres located in the New Chief’s Palace.
This brings the total number of applicants registered so far to 1,500.
Registration at the two places was on last Friday morning temporarily held up following a brutal assault on an agent of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), named only as Kasum, by thugs who stormed there on motor bikes.
The victim had to be treated at the Kumasi South Hospital and the police called in to restore sanity.
Mr Eric Opoku and Mr Samuel Dickson, the registration officers, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the deployment of police officers to the centres had significantly helped to calm the situation.
Phase-one of the exercise ends today and their next stop is Komfo Badukrom, near the Asokwa Police Station.**
