Appeals Court asks Brong Ahafo House of Chiefs to admit Chief

Sunyani March 29, GNA- An Accra Court of Appeal has upheld an appeal against an order of a Sunyani High Court compelling the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs to admit Osabarima Okokyeredom Kwadwo Sito I, Omanhene of Banda Traditional Area as a legitimate Member. Opanin Kwadwo Fordjour, Head of the Petelli Royal family at Kabrono, filed the appeal.

By a unanimous decision, the Court, presided over by Mrs Justice S. O Adinyira with Mr Justice Asiamah and Mr Justice Kusi-Appiah as members of the panel ordered that an order of mandamus issued by the Sunyani High Court presided by Mr Justice Baffoe-Bonnie, by which the House was ordered to enter the name of Osabarima Sito as a member, be set aside.

It also ordered that the judgment and cost of two million cedis awarded the applicant by the high court be set aside. The Appeals Court awarded a costs of 10 million cedis in favour of the Petelli family.

The High Court on July 18, 2002 granted an application for mandamus brought by Nana Sito I to compel the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs to admit him as a legitimate member in his capacity as the Omanhene of Banda Traditional Area.
