Domeabra (Ash), Oct 05, GNA – A farmer has suggested to the government to come out with a policy framework that would make it mandatory for the use of weighing scales in the marketing of farm produce instead of the manual way of selling. Nana Kwaku Siaw the Second National Best Farmer for 2004 said the use of such weighing scales would help eliminate cheating of farmers. Speaking to the GNA in an interview Nana Siaw, the Managing Director of the Kumah Farms Complex, said cheating of farmers had gone on for long and using scales would stop it.
The Kumah Farms rears pigs, keeps bees, has fishponds, and rears grass cutters, ostriches and snails. It also grows citrus, plantain as well as cereals.
He appealed to the government to place some young people on the farms of national award winners to be trained. ”This way, the award winners will offer free training to such youth and help augment the number of trainees from the agricultural colleges. The award winners will only need some basic infrastructure.”
