“Apio” for Support?

Don’t buy alcoholic drinks for party supporters – NCCE Director
Ajumako (C/R), Sept 18, GNA – The Ajumako-Enyan-Essiam District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Miss Georgina Yeboah has urged political parties to desist from buying alcoholic drinks for their supporters during their campaign tours or rallies.
Miss Yeboah pointed out that “since some people had little control over their senses when they were under the influence of alcohol”, providing the drink during political activities could be a recipe for chaos.
The NCCE Director suggested that all drinking bars should be closed on
the election day “to allow people to go about their duties with sober minds”. She gave the advice at a forum organised at Ajumako by the District Directorate of the Commission for political parties and security agents to map out strategies that would ensure peace before, during and after the December elections. Miss Yeboah advised the political parties to recruit people who have a
deep knowledge on electoral laws as polling stations agents to forestall any
confusion. “Since elections are won or lost at polling stations, it is important that the
parties or independent candidates place people who know what is expected of them at the centres,” she said.
Mr James Koranteng, a Field Officer of the District Directorate cautioned
against taunting by supporters of a winning party. Representative of the New Patriotic Party, the National Democratic
Congress and an Independent Candidate in the area pledged to control their supporters in order to ensure peaceful elections.
