Apam Police Ladies to help promote girl-child education

Police Women in Apam have decided to arrest any school girl found on the streets during school hours, as effort to promote girl-child education in the area.

Inspector Salomey Nunoo, of the Apam Police Station, said this at a sensitization gathering of the 25th Anniversary celebration of the Gomoa West branch of the Police Ladies Association at Apam.

She stressed the need for parents to provide their children, especially the girls, with all their needs, to avoid yielding to sexual advances by men in exchange for personal items.

“A very good education for girls can enhance their prospects of securing good employment to better their lives in future.”

According to her, women are seriously lagging behind, and that a good girl-child education would enable them rub shoulders with their male counterparts.

She advised women to respect their husbands so that they would in turn be in a better position to push their girl-child up the educational ladder.

Inspector Nunoo advised mothers not to use greater portion of their resources on expensive clothes and on funerals, but to invest them in their children’s education.

She urged couples to disabuse their minds of the notion that a well-trained girl-child would finally end up in the kitchen.

Inspector Nunoo urged men not to lure young girls into prostitution, or impregnate them, but encourage them to complete their education.

As part of the celebration, the Police Ladies distributed school materials including pens, flash cards, souvenirs, posters and brochures on violence against women, to the pupils of the Gomoa Ankamu District Assembly JHS.
