Apam fishermen appealed for more supply of pre-mix fuel

Apam, Sept 18, GNA – The chief fisherman of Apam, Opanyin Kobina Caiquo, on Sunday appealed for the supply of enough pre-mix fuel to fishermen in the area to meet their requirement.

He said the insufficient supply of the product has resulted in the use of petrol mixed with gas oil by fishermen.

Opanyin told the GNA in an interview that the fishermen considered this method was more expensive and also shorten the life span of their outboard motors.

He called for the supply of more outboard motors to fishermen in the area and that a total of 35 outboard motors give to them by the Member Parliament for Gomoa West, Mr Joe Kingsely Hackman in 2005 and last month respectively were inadequate.

The chief fisherman said the absence of more storage facilities at Apam was hampering smooth business, adding that some of their catches got rotten and had to be turned into salted fish. 18 Sept 06
