Apam (C/R), May 3, GNA – St Joseph’s Catholic Church at Apam marked the feast of their Patron Saint, Joseph the Worker, on May one, with a call on workers to dedicate the work they do to God. The Reverend Father Jude Eduafo Ampah, Parish Priest, in a sermon urged workers to bear in mind at all times that they were working for God but not man.
This, he said, would make them to give of their best for God whom they were working for to reward them at appropriate times. The Rev Fr Ampah said it was not by coincidence for the feast of St Joseph the Worker, the foster father of Jesus Christ, to coincide with May Day, a world-wide day of solidarity with workers. He said it signified the impact the Church had on the society and the closer collaboration that must exist between the Church and society. The Rev Fr Ampah condemned lazy workers and said people who did not dedicate themselves to their work were mostly financially handicapped because they did not receive God’s blessings.
“From my observation, hard working people live well, however small their salaries are,” the Priest stated.
He urged workers to regard the work others do as theirs and never to look down upon what others do. The Rev Fr Ampah appealed to people in authority not to use their positions to cheat their subordinates because God would make them to answer why they did not give their subordinates what was due them. He called for harmony between workers and the government in power to ensure increased productivity.
The Catholic Priest appealed to government and private sector employers to pay their workers well to prevent agitations for better remunerations which often disturbed public peace and lowered productivity.
