Apagya L/A JSS wins quiz competition on AIDS

Adansi-Apagya (Ash), Oct 14, GNA – Adansi-Apagya Local Authority Junior Secondary School (JSS) in the Adansi East District emerged winners in a quiz competition on HIV/AIDS held at Apagya on Tuesday. Ataasi-Nkwanta JSS followed them at the second position and Adansi-Praso JSS took the third position.

Adansi-Atobiase failed to take part in the competition organised by the New Edubiase Parish Association of Catholic Teachers (PACT). The competition was designed to test the pupils’ knowledge of the disease and how far they had understood its ramifications. Each participant was presented with AIDS educational and academic materials. Hope For Humanity, an NGO and Mr William Boakye Baafi, an AIDS counsellor, sponsored it.

Mr Kwame Kirk Okyere, the secretary of the New Edubiase branch of PACT, noted that it was easier to change the lifestyle of a young person than an adult.

The programme, he said, is to enable the school children to get insight into the disease for them to realise its devastating effect. Mr Okyere said the time had come for the education authorities, religious groups and all other stakeholders to take active part in the campaign against the disease that is spreading at an alarming rate.

Mr S.P. Odame, the head teacher of Apagya JSS, thanked the organisers for giving the children the opportunity to test their knowledge on the dreadful disease.
