Enchi (W/R), July 28, GNA – Ten thousand, eight hundred people out of a total population of 120,000 have registered for the Mutual Health Insurance Scheme in the Aowin-Suaman District of the Western Region. Mr Augustine Acquah, Manager of the scheme, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Enchi that many of the registered people
have not fully paid up their contributions to the scheme. Mr Acquah said this is because people do not believe the scheme would work and are waiting to see whether it would be successfully implemented, before paying their contributions.
He said photographs of registered persons are now being taken for identity cards and there are inadequate personnel to manage the information system.
Mr. Acquah said registration agents engaged in communities made mistakes during the registration exercise and this has made it difficult
to ascertain the ages of people. He said lack of transport and the poor nature of roads were drawbacks during the registration exercise. Mr Acquah said despite these problems, the scheme would take off by August 2, this year. 28 July, 05
