Anxiety over Mobilla’s brother’s safty

There is growing anxiety in Tamale about the safety of Alhaji Ibrahim Mobilla, brother of the late Alhaji Issah Mobilla who died in military custody after the December 7 general elections.

Five armed policemen in Tamale allegedly cordoned the house of Alhaji Ibrahim Mobilla yesterday after the Regional Police Command issued a statement that some politically inclined people intend to cause trouble in the Tamale Metropolis.

The statement signed by the Regional Commander Ephraim Brakatu warned that the police would do all it can to ensure that such people do not succeed.

According to Alhaji Ibrahim Mobilla, he was returning from his farm at about 9pm on Thursday when he saw police presence around his two houses and, therefore, took to his heels to avoid any encounter with the police.

He explained that he was not a politician and do not understand why the police should visit his premises at that time.

When contacted for his comments the Regional Police Commander Ephraim O. Brakatu denied that the police had gone there to arrest Alhaji Ibrahim Mobilla.

He said the police were on a normal patrol duty and had intercepted an unlicensed vehicle around that area, and that might have given the impression that they were there to effect the arrest of the occupants of the two houses.

No arrests were made and none of the houses were searched.r. Brakatu re-assured the people that the police have no intention of arresting anybody who conducts himself responsibly.
