Antoine Semenyo Pens Emotional Message After Racial Abuse at Anfield: “Football Showed Its Best Side”

Bournemouth striker Antoine Semenyo has shared a heartfelt statement following the racial abuse he suffered during Friday night’s Premier League clash at Anfield, praising the football community for rallying behind him.

The Ghanaian forward, who scored twice despite the incident, said the night would remain unforgettable, not because of the abuse, but because of the solidarity shown in its aftermath.

“Last night at Anfield will stay with me forever, not because of one person’s words, but because of how the entire football family stood together,” Semenyo wrote.

He went on to thank his Bournemouth teammates, Liverpool players and fans, and the Premier League for their swift support. “Football showed its best side when it mattered most,” he added.

Reflecting on his brace, the 24-year-old said: “Scoring those two goals felt like speaking the only language that truly matters on the pitch. This is why I play, for moments like these, for my teammates, for everyone who believes in what this beautiful game can be.”

Semenyo concluded by expressing gratitude for the wave of messages he received from across the football world, calling it a reminder of why he loves the sport.

The incident is under police investigation, with Liverpool pledging full cooperation. For Semenyo, however, his words made clear that resilience and unity will always speak louder than hate.
