Another Policeman Gunned Down

Another policeman has been gunned down by persons believed to be Fulani armed robbers on Saturday January 8.

Details of the incident are scanty but Daily Guide gathered that Chief Inspector Hannobil of the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) headquarters of the Ghana Police Service in Accra was shot dead by the suspected robbers somewhere near Dodowa.

Snippets of information gathered, bereft of his full name as the police authorities would want to keep such details under the carpet for a while, suggest that the deceased shot at the suspects who, in a return fire, killed him.

His remains have been deposited at the Police Hospital for autopsy. The Commanding Officer of the MTTU, ACP Awuni Angwubutoge confirmed the story but failed to disclose the dead officer’s name.

Earlier reports had it that the deceased, whose hobby was hunting, had gone a-hunting in the Dodowa forest where he was mistaken for a game and shot at. The Police have denied this version and commenced investigations already.

Some Fulani herdsmen, in parts of the Northern and the Brong Ahafo regions, have taken to armed robbery on the highway leading to the Northern corridor of the country, raping and sometimes killing their victims.

In one of such incidents, female victims were only spared a raping ordeal after pleading with their captors, and invoking the name of God. Policemen have, in the past year, been subjected to fatal attacks by robbers.

Another policeman, a sergeant, was killed by suspected robbers in the Ashanti Region. The killer of a policeman in the Ashanti region recently was eventually arrested.
