A chief executive of Jasikan, Hon. Solomon Donkor, who virtually embarrassed the Kufuor administration, by suppressing the truth in the Dudzome boat disaster when he woefully failed to properly brief the Ports and Habours minister on his recent tour of the area, has done it again.
In less than ten days after settlers were forcibly crammed into a boat, leading to the untimely death of many of them. Some of the survivors have been put under false imprisonment.
This time round, the DCE has physically prevented a number of the survivors, who had earlier on spoken to The Chronicle, from traveling down to Accra to attend a press conference being organized by the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative (CHRI).
The paper’s dynamic investigator on the beat at Tapa-Abotoase, Samuel Agbewode, reported late last night of how the DCE stormed the house where the survivors were staying and ordered them not to step out of the district.
He managed to instill ‘the fear of God’ in the survivors by his action, which took place in the full glare of the public at the house of the secretary of the Tapa-Abotoase Boat Owners Association, Mr. Kaisaro Yao Awoye Morganu.
Confirming, the story to the paper on telephone, Morganu said he was shocked at the behavior of the DCE and described it as very strange. He hinted that the survivors had also been demoralized by Donkor’s action.
The latest development could be seen as part of a grand design to bury ‘vital’ facts of the unfolding saga of the accident and possibly gag the survivors in their bid to give the world a true situation report on the accident, which runs parallel to official accounts.
Donkor was last seen on GTV presenting just over a dozen blankets to survivors who his outfit says number about 71. His action could definitely be seen as yet another human rights abuse by a government official.
