Another BNI Boss Quit

ANOTHER KEY member of the National Security has left in a cloud of suspicion, but stoutly refusing to give reasons why he is no longer at post when reached on telephone.

“In this our business we do not talk “was all the likeable professional lawyer would say when reached on phone last week.

Mr. Owusu Fordwuor, Director of the Bureau of National Investigations, on Wednesday last week, cleared his desk and prepared handing over notes for a top police officer from the Western Region to take over the challenging job at BNI at this crucial time when a number of security blunders are raising national concerns.

Sources are blaming the National Security Adviser, General Joshua Hamidu, for Owusu’s decision to quit, though another school suggests that he was given his marching orders.

Mr. Owusu Fordwuor was in private legal practice when he was invited to take the job, though he had had a long stint in police and Special branch duties.

He is the second person to leave the hot seat after Mr. J. Afare, the first BNI Director to take over in the NPP administration, was relieved of his position inside seven months after taking office and later posted to the London office as Passport officer.

Mr. Afare has indicated to sources that he was pushed to make the series of controversial arrests that embarrassed the government.

General Hamidu, the National Security Adviser, has been under consistent pressure to resign himself because of countless security blunders under his watch.
