Tamale (N/R), Feb 13, GNA – The chiefs and people in the Tamale Metropolis on Sunday climaxed their annual Damba Festival with a grand durbar amidst drumming and dancing and firing of gunshots at the palace of Dakpema Naa Alhasan Dawuni, Chief of Tamale.
The climax of the two-day celebration saw a number of chiefs in the Metropolis visit the palace of Dakpema to pay their respects to him signifying their submission to his authority.
The Tamale township came to a standstill as some of the major roads were blocked and a number of residents lined up the streets to the palace of Dakpema Naa cheering the chiefs who were visiting to pay their respects to the chief.
It took about an hour to reach the palace of Dakpema Naa when walking from the main town, a distance of about 500-metres, as there was virtually little space for anyone to take long strides.
In a word, Naa Alhassan Dawuni called for peace and unity amongst all people in the Northern Region to ensure development, saying that development could not take place in a conflict-ridden environment.
Damba is an annual traditional festival of most ethnic groups in the Northern Region, including the Dagombas, Mamprusis and Walas.
