ANNOUNCERS COSTUME LAUNCHED

A costume for News readers and continuity announcers of Ghana Television was launched in Accra today. The costume, sewn from GTP wax print, is a joint venture of the Ghana Textiles Printing Company, Lintas and Ghana Television. It is in three varieties of wine and white, yellow and blue and a combination of blue, brown and cream. Rev. George Lomotey of GTV, who gave a brief background information of the costume, noted that GTV was prompted by President Rawlings’ suggestion some time ago that news readers and announcers should wear African costume to portray the Ghanaian culture. He said a committee was set up and with the assistance of GTP and Lintas, a dress code was formulated. The Managing Director of GTP, Mr.. Gilles Moisan, said the dress code for GTV news readers will not only benefit his organisation, but also help GTV to portray African culture. The head of Public Affairs of GBC, Mrs.. Maud Blankson-Mills, who chaired the function, said the dress code is important, because news readers and presenters act as role models to majority of the public, adding that it will go a long way to promote the Ghanaian culture.
