Anlos urged to unite and banish poverty

Togbe Awusu III, the Awadada of Anlo has urged contemporary Anlos to unite and lift themselves from poverty and underdevelopment just as their forebears did, when they broke ranks with King Agorkoli’s tyrannical rule in Notsie, Togo.

He was addressing a mini Hogbetsotso Festival at the weekend at Ave-Havi in the Akatsi-North District, to herald this year’s main Hogbetsotso Durbar to be held at Anloga on November 7.

Togbe Awusu said as Anlos celebrated their historic escape, it was important the current generation reflected on their socio-politico-economic circumstances.

He tasked the people to unite in their quest for development and make the migration and its annual celebration and its remembrance meaningful.

Mr Dan Abodakpi, a former High Commissioner to Malaysia, asked all to gear towards uplifting the image of Anlo to attract the reverence and goodwill of outsiders.

Mr Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, the Akatsi North Member of Parliament, said the constituency has abolished about 90 per cent of schools that used to be under trees.

Mr. James Gunu, District Chief Executive of the area, noted that, the lack of camaraderie was inhibiting socio-economic development in the area.

Mr Gunu said the Ghana Highway Authority would soon construct drainage systems along roads in all flood-prone areas in the district.

He said a three-unit classroom block would also be constructed for the pupils at Ave Havi.

The rich culture of the people and drama on King Agorkorli’s tyranny and the eventual migration, climaxed the celebration.
