Anlos to immortalise the memory of Kotoka

Fiaxor (V/R), April 23, GNA – The Anlo State under the leadership of Regent Togbe Sri III would revive and complete all projects started in the area in memory of Lieutenant-General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka. The projects include a clinic and a town hall at Fiaxor, Lt-Gen. Kotoka’s hometown.

Togbe Sri announced this at a durbar at Fiaxor to mark the 40th anniversary of the death of Lt-Gen Kotoka held at Fiaxor at the weekend. Lt-Gen Kotoka led the coup that toppled Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s Convention People’s Party (CPP) Government in 1966 with funding from the Central Intelligence Agency of United States of America but was killed during an abortive coup a year later.

The military putsch, which accused the Nkrumah regime of corruption and insensitivity to opposing views among other things, formed the National Liberation Council (NLC), which ruled the country until it handed over power in 1969 to an elected government.

Togbe Sri said the valour of the General Kotoka could best be remembered by his people if they led upright lives.

He called for unity among Anlos to enable them to resolve the impasse over the installation of a substantive Awomefia. Mr Osei Prempeh, Deputy Attorney General, said the history of the country would not be complete without mentioning the name of Lt. General Kotoka and criticised the CPP for introducing the Preventive Detention Act and one party State, which he said represented an affront to freedom and justice in the country.

Mr Kofi Dzamesi, Volta Regional Minister, also expressed regrets that the Nkrumah regime did not promote the human rights of Ghanaians.
