Kumasi, Jan 25, GNA-Carpenters and wood dealers in the Anloga wood industrial area in Kumasi have been cautioned against non-payment of taxes and other levies just because of the decision to move them soon from the area and resettle them at the Sokoban wood village. Togbe Reverend S.K. Fugah, President of the Ghana Tertiary Wood Products Association (GHATEWPA) who gave the caution, made it clear that even though it was obvious that artisans in the Anloga area would be moved to Sokoban, it was still mandatory for them to continue to pay their levies to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), utility bills and land/ground fees.
Togbe Fugah was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Kumasi on Tuesday on preparations so far made for resettlement of the Anloga carpenters and wood dealers at the Sokoban wood village. “Once you continue to operate your business, be it at Anloga or Sokoban, you are bound, not to only pay your taxes and levies regularly, but also promptly”, he stressed.
He advised the artisans not to be too upset about their movement since their resettlement would be done based on consultations and discussions with the appropriate authorities so as not to bring any hardships to bear on their businesses.
Togbe Fugah, who is also a patron of the Wood Workers Association of Ghana (WAG), said of particular interest to them would be the issue of compensation, saying, “we shall do all we can to ensure that all owners of houses affected by developments and construction of the road in the vicinity will have adequate compensation paid them”.
