Kumasi, August 8, GNA – Mr. Robert Joseph Mettle-Nunoo, Deputy Minister for Roads and Highways, has advised carpenters at Anloga in Kumasi, to bury their differences and adopt what he termed “one-company concept” in their work.
This he said would enable the professionals to become better positioned and strengthened to have access to international and high-profile contracts as well as credit facilities to expand their businesses. Mr Mettle-Nunoo was interacting with members of the Anloga Carpenters Union at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council in Kumasi on Friday. The meeting was to discuss the relocation of the carpenters to the Sokoban Wood Village to pave way for work for the commencement of the Anloga-Asokwa by-pass project.
The Deputy Minister reminded the carpenters that the world was now a global village and they should adopted scientific approach to their work in order to be competitive in the international market. Mr. Mettle-Nunoo asked the leadership of the Union to mobilize resources and formulate a comprehensive business plan to cater for the different categories of carpenters for them to attain efficiency. He asked carpenters who could not find sheds at the village to temporarily join their colleagues as the Government worked hard to find additional land for the provision of more facilities. Mr. Mettle-Nunoo urged them to liaise with the re-settlement Committee to provide adequate protection for equipment and machines at the Wood Village.
The Deputy Minister assured the carpenters of government’s continued support and said the authorities would explore ways of training them to upgrade their competencies and skills. The Reverend Samuel Fugah, Patron of the Union, said he was hopeful that the relocation of the carpenters to Sokoban would boost their businesses in view of the state-of-the-art infrastructure at the place.
