Anlo Police Murder: Corpses Missing From The Mortuaries

Investigations by Anlo Youth have revealed that the bodies of those short at and killed by the police, as well as the man who died in police custody has been missing from both the Keta and Ho mortuaries since Monday, November 19, 2007.

Our investigations were initiated as a result of an SOS call made on Anlo Youth by the families of the deceased when their visit to the morgue on Tuesday, November 20, 2007, to see their murdered relatives revealed that their bodies have been removed from the Ho and Keta morgues to unknown destinations and for unfathomable reasons.

These developments bring several questions to the fore! Among these are:

• The Regional Minister Mr. Kofi Dzeamesi, the Regional Police Commander DCOP Mr. Bernard Dery, and the DCE Mr. Edward Kofi Ahiabor, should please answer to Ghanaians concerning the whereabouts of the corpses of this dastardly act. Otherwise, who do these public servants answer to?

• We would also like to find out who indeed authorized the removal of the bodies from the morgues. This is because the hospital authorities at the Government Hospital in Keta have denied knowledge of the removal of the bodies and worse still, have no clue, whatsoever, where they have been taken to or whatever would happen to them.

• It is very clear and, like everything else in this Anlo saga, for whatever reason, no procedures have been followed, and rights have been grossly violated. Why are the hospital authorities and the families of the deceased not informed of the transfer of the bodies and the reason for it, even after they were taken away?

• What is most baffling in our investigations is why simple procedures of inviting family members of the deceased persons to witness their removal could not be followed in order to clear any apparent foreseen doubts that may result in a postmortem thereafter. This demonstrates that the police, being suspects in this case, will go all lengths to clean their bloody acts.

We are again calling on the government, the police and all the parties involve in this matter to act above reproach and within the law. The evidence in this matter have been tempered with.

Signed for and on behalf of Anlo Youth:

Mayor Agbleze (President) P.Y.Tsikata (Secretary) Frieda Yayra Amable (Treasurer) Tuinese E. Amuzu, Selorm Afagbemi, Etse Tamakloe, Daniel Agbezudor Elvis Adika, Carl Quao, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Philip Adzraku, Kofi S. Nenyonyoge
