Anlo Elders call for calm

Accra, May 13, GNA – The Elders of the Royal Adzovia Clan of Anlo on Thursday appealed to Anlos to remain calm in the face of extreme provocations while high level consultations were made to properly nominate, select and install an Awoamefia.

In a statement reacting to a demonstration of enraged youths in the Keta District last Tuesday, the Stool Secretary, Napoleon Agboada said the Kingmakers would not be stampeded by the adoption of populist method to make a wrong choice of a king.

The statement, therefore, warned all those, who were misleading the youth that they were playing themselves into the gallery of the law.

“We will like to conclude that the installation of an Awoamefia is not like forming a political party while ascending the throne is not based on how much publicity you generate in the media as is the practice of politicians.”

It accused some people of being bent on creating mayhem in the Anlo State and to make it impossible for the Kingmakers of the Adzovia Clan to install the king.

“We will therefore advise all Anlos to treat the news report with the contempt that it deserves and appeal to them to remain clam in the face of the extreme provocation”, the statement said.

Hundreds of enraged youths in the Keta District on Tuesday staged a protest demonstration through the principal streets of Anloga to show their indignation and resentment about the failure of the kingmakers to produce an Awoamefia for the Anlo State.

The protest, which lasted about two hours, finally ended at the palace of Awadada Agbesi Awusu II, where a petition was presented through him to the Anlo Traditional Council calling on the chiefs to “produce” an Awoamefia within three months or face the wrath of the youth. The youth also demanded the settlement of all impending chieftaincy disputes within a specified period and to restore peace and security in all parts of the State in preparation for the forthcoming Hogbetsotso Festival to be celebrated in November.
