Ankomah wins NDC Primary for Jaman South

Drobo (B/A), April 13, GNA – Mr Peter Kwabena Ankomah, 57, a former District Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) for Techiman, on Sunday won the National Democratic Congress (NDC) primary held at Drobo in the Brong Ahafo Region.

Mr Ankomah, popularly called Pierre and former tutor of Sunyani Secondary School, beat his only contestant, Ahmed Shamms by 114 votes to 105, to contest the Jaman South parliamentary poll scheduled for December this year. Mr Ankomah expressed his deep appreciation to the NDC delegates for giving him the nod and urged them to continue to give him their unflinching support to enable the NDC to wrest the parliamentary seat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP). He congratulated Mr Shamms for putting up a good fight and said the victory was not for him alone but a joint one for the party and all its members.

Mr Ankomah accepted the fact that it was not easy to unseat an incumbent Member of Parliament and, therefore, solicited his support and that of all the party faithful to enable him to win the parliamentary seat for the party.

Nr Shamms conceded defeat and congratulated Mr Ankomah on his victory and pledged his moral and financial support for him to enable him to clinch victory for the NDC.

The Jaman parliamentary seat is held by Honourable Anna Nyamekye, a Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture, who is being challenged by seven other candidates from the NPP, which is yet to hold its primary to decide who picks the ticket for the December parliamentary election.
