Ankaful Prison inmates demonstrate over poor food

Inmates at the Ankaful Prison in Cape Coast, the Central regional capital, have embarked on a protest against prison authorities over the poor quality of foods they are served.

According to the inmates, they are used for hard labour but are fed non-nutritious meals.

They also claim that their relatives are prevented by prison authorities from visiting and giving them food prepared from home, a situation that has infuriated the prisoners.

According to Okokrokoo FM’s Kweku Boahen, prison authorities informed him that foods brought to the inmates by their families are often laced with marijuana, hence their refusal to allow inmates to be served those foods.

“They have, thus, appealed to the authority to allow their relatives to bring food to them in the prison,” Kweku reported.
